Final Friday Five
Conferences and awards were high on the agenda for this month, with the RICS awards, the Stirling Prize, UK Passivhaus conference and MIPIM all generating a lot of conversation. We managed to pop along to most of the events that have been going on and some of the key articles we have read this month have been drawn directly from the topics that were high on the agenda at these events.
Firstly the report from the Passivhaus Trust (@PassivhausTrust), covering the highlights from the UK Passivhaus conference. If you didn’t get chance to go (and even if you did) this article covers some of the key messages which came out of the event, and key success factors for Passivhaus. There was a focus on delivering Passivhaus at scale and you can find out more here or have a look at #UKPHC15.
Measuring performance is a vital part of a Passivhaus and the performance of buildings is the topic of a recent article in RIBA (@RIBA), which considers other factors that can be measured to assess the long term performance of buildings and if this should be considered in awards. Find the full story here.
Continuing with the numbers theme, this infographic from Architects Journal, (@ArchitectsJrnal) describing the RIBA Stirling Prize winning Burntwood School in numbers, got everyone in our office talking. Take a look here.
This next was one of the funniest, and best written articles that we have read in a long time – with a very serious point to make – Big Chantelle’s thoughts on architecture in this month’s Urban Realm (@urbanrealm). A sort of counter point to the Stirling Prize above. We’re not going to tell you any more about it just click here and read it now.
Finally this month, we’ve got our own set of numbers for you – an infographic on the real value of space.
